Called the " Garden Island of the Bahamas", Eleuthera is cherished among visitors to the Bahamas as the most verdant and picturesque of the Family Islands. Steeped in a long history of continuous settlement since 1648, Eleuthera has a diverse and rich cultural mix among its inhabitants.
Eleuthera is a beautiful tropical island located about fifty miles east from Nassau which is located on the island of New Providence. Eleuthera is about 100 miles long and about 3 miles wide. The population, of approximately 8000, is dispersed around the island with the mainpopulation centers being; Rock Sound, Governors Harbor, Spanish Wells and Harbor Island. Primary sources of capital include tourism, vegetable and fruit farming, fishing, and light construction.
Winding Bay is a spectacular bay on the located on the east side of Eleuthera. The bay is approximately 3 miles N-S and about ¾ mile E-W. The beautiful pink and white beaches of Winding Bay are some of the most stunning in the world. The bay is like a giant swimming pool with warm gentle water lapping the beach, protected from the ocean surge of the Atlantic by a spectacular reef. There is an abundance of marine life in and around Winding Bay, including such exotic sea life as turtles, sea rays, tropical fish, giant star fish and beautiful coral. Activities that can be enjoyed on Winding Bay or on the adjacent beaches and bays are beach combing, bird watching, fishing, jogging, kayaking, sailing, shelling, snorkeling, swimming, or just lazing on the beach, under a cabana or in the hammock.
Casa Makai is a sanctuary; a tasteful home set in 4 private acres of lush tropical gardens, centered in the crescent of Winding Bay. The property offers 225’ of spectacular private beach frontage made up of baby soft pink and white sand and crystal clear waters. The property location offers spectacular views of all of Winding Bay and the surging Atlantic beyond the protective reef.
The open floor plan of the home is ideal for coastal living and entertaining. The great room with it’s open ceiling, full sliding glass walls on both the garden and ocean side open up to create a sense of being with nature.
The expansive patio overlooks the extensively landscaped garden while the deck provides wonderful views of Winding Bay. The home with it’s two bedroom suites and den/bedroom (4 baths & 3 outdoor showers) comfortably sleeps six adults in two queen and one king bed. The master bedroom suite and den offer spectacular views of the ocean while the garden suite offers the privacy of the tropical garden.
Included with our home and to make your visit more enjoyable and fun:
Full set of kitchen appliances, cookware, dishes, utensils, napkins etc.
Full set of sheets, blankets, towels etc.
Housekeeper, Erica, will be in every day for approximately 4 hours (9am-1pm) to:
• Clean all of the house,
• Clean Dishes,
• Make beds,
• Laundry and ironing,
• Pick up odds & ends at the stores in Tarpum Bay.

Our gardener, Bonaparte, will also be on the property each day (7am-3pm M-F, then as needed on Sat/Sun) he will:
• Ensure that the beach is cleaned every morning,
• Help out in other ways to make your stay more enjoyable...just ask Erica,
• Extensive collection of books (fact & fiction),
• Cabana on the beach for shade,
• Hammock in the causarinas for relaxation,
• Beach table & benches,
• Lounge chairs (4) available on the beach,
• Beach towels,
• Kayaks (2), with gloves and life jackets,
• Beach volleyball net and ball for the energetic folks.
